Beyond cell phones & social media
Hey teens! What R U doing 4 Spring Break?
Grab a friend, come visit us, and discover the amazing amount of digital and tech-focused programs and services available for you. From digital materials like music and comics to cool coding classes and mobile makerspaces, you can take advantage of it all!
And it’s free…with a library card.
You have one, don’t you?
In addition to getting you books, videos, and other stuff, your library card connects you with Flash Your Card deals and discounts at 40 local restaurants and businesses like Tom + Chee, La Luz in Old Town, Rollerland, Ripple Effects Martial Arts, and Braces U Orthodontics.
Picking up a library card is quick and easy: simply head to any of the three library locations and bring a current student ID, Colorado ID, or driver’s license. If you don’t have any of these, then bring a parent who can provide their own picture ID and proof of residence – they can vouch for you.
Digital Resources
Once you’ve got your library card in hand (or attached to your key chain), you’re ready to checkout or download any number of things from books and magazines to music and television shows. You name it! We even have gadgets and things to check out like Fitbits and cake pans.
Sure, you can check out items the traditional way – by coming to the library to pick it up – but you can also use any of the free apps or services to download to your digital devices. You won’t even have to get out of bed during Spring Break if you have a library card – you can get eBooks, audiobooks, and other media delivered right to you! (And in multiple languages.)
Do you like Teen Vogue or Rolling Stone but don’t want to pay for a subscription? Our Zinio service lets you access more than 100 magazine titles for free.
Want to read the graphic novel series The Walking Dead or the latest DC Universe: Rebirth comics? Then hoopla is a perfect choice.
Interested in an audiobook or eBook like the Miss Peregrine Series? Try OverDrive and OneClickdigital.
You’ll also find that the library has a variety of eMedia classes, tutorials, and handouts to teach you how to use these apps and services with your tablet, smartphone, computer, or eReader. Of course you can also ask one of the library staff members to give you a hand.
Tech Exploration & Creation
The library also offers a number of free programs and classes that you let you explore and have fun with technology. Whether you’re a beginner or already have some skills, these activities are designed to connect you with the latest tech gadgets (like robotics!), push your creativity, and spark your curiosity. After all, creativity isn’t confined to color pencils and oil paints.
