Science, Art, and Creativity Fuel Fort Collins Comic Con

It’s quite easy to get caught up in the excitement people have for comic books, science, and pop culture when you walk through Fort Collins Comic Con. Everywhere you look, cosplayers rep their favorite fandoms, kids high-five superheroes and supervillains, and people bond over shared interests.

This year’s Fort Collins Comic Con takes place the weekend of August 17-18 at Northside Aztlan Community Center and promises to be another great family-friendly event.

New this year: the Cosplayground, an interactive area located on the 2nd floor of the Northside Aztlan Center featuring cosplay vendors, cosplay groups, and hands-on workshops run by Life of the Party and other presenters! Don’t miss it.

Comic book creators and artists take center stage at the event alongside prominent scientists ready to share their enthusiasm and knowledge of space exploration, physics, and more. Science-related programs include the “Ask a Scientist” table, science experiments with STEMpunkED, presentations on science and science fiction, and much more.

Just a few of the special guests you can meet and talk with during the Con.

“Our Con is about representation. Pop-culture doesn’t mean monoculture. That’s why access to the writers and artists and creators and scientists is so important to our event,” says Nick Armstrong, co-founder of Fort Collins Comic Con. “For two days, there’s a bustle of people and cosplay and art, but it’s all designed to also provide opportunities for real connection and learning and appreciation.”

The two-day Con also offers workshops and interactive presentations designed to spark new interests and create a sense of community. Meet new authors and artists, learn about video game development, participate in an audio drama, try out new techniques for cosplay creation, build your own comic book, and even debate the merits of Marvel vs. DC. (See the event schedule for times, locations, and descriptions.)

The Vendor Hall and surrounding areas feature more than 150 amazing artists, writers, cosplayers, and exhibitors.

“Wanting to meet people with similar interests is certainly one of the reasons why people attend Fort Collins Comic Con, but we also exist to provide a platform for geeks to showcase their creativity,” explains Armstrong. “It’s the experience of connection and acceptance that builds the community and brings people back every year.”

Whether you’re a Comic Con newbie or are ready to deep dive into your fandom, there is truly something for everyone at Fort Collins Comic Con.
