Storytime doesn’t have to take a break just because the Library buildings are closed. In fact, there are a number of children’s authors and organizations doing what they can to make sure kids have opportunities to enjoy storytime from home.

WHEN AND WHERE: Via the Kennedy Center every day at 11am

The first-ever Education artist-in-residence at the Kennedy Center, New Yorker Mo Willems will hold LUNCH DOODLES every day at 11am: Your kiddos can peek into the mind of the author of Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny and other contemporary classics. LUNCH DOODLES will be archived on YouTube.

Storytime from Space

Astronauts read stories from the International Space Station. A great video collection featuring books like Ada Twist, Scientist and Max Visits to Mars. Plus: fun videos highlighting science experiments.


Storyline Online

WHEN AND WHERE: Any time via the Storyline Online website

This incredible resource is an archive of hundreds of children’s books read by some of the greatest actors of our time, including Viola Davis, Chris Pine, Lily Tomlin, Rami Malek, and James Earl Jones. Yes, Storyline Online is where you can watch Betty White read Harry the Dirty Dog.

A collection of 30-60 second videos of songs, rhymes, and fingerplays for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Lots of different languages available. A project of Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy.

A great collection of storytime songs, music games, and music learning activities. Plus: DIY homemade instruments for all ages.

Story Pirates

WHEN AND WHERE: Any time via the Story Pirates Podcast

Story Pirates is a group of world-class actors, comedians, improvisers and musicians who adapt stories written by kids into sketch comedy and musical theater.


Tumblebooks

WHEN AND WHERE: Any time via the Library’s TumbleBooks Book Library

Enjoy eBooks with added animation, sound, music and narration which the caregiver can read to the child, or the child can have read to them via an audio soundtrack. Some titles are available in Spanish or French. TumbleBooks also offers word searches and other puzzles and games. Available in multiple languages.


Book FLIX

Great online resources for PreK-3, early readers, reluctant readers and English Language Learners. Nearly 200 animated, talking picture books with more than 50 books in Spanish. Plus, fun educational games.

The #OperationStoryime tag on Facebook will bring you to a growing collection of children’s book authors and illustrators reading their own works. Check back regularly: #OperationStorytime is adding new titles every few hours.
