Ahoy, mateys! I, Captain Cache, be the newest member of the Poudre River Public Library District’s mascot team. It be an honor, ye know, bein’ just a simple pirate and all, t’ represent the Libraries’ online activities. Let me tell ya how I came to be a Library Mascot…

Once upon a time, in a land far far away… actually, that be a lie. It wasn’t in a faraway land, it was just north of Fort Collins….

I was sailing down the Poudre River when I ran into Annie the Railroad Dog, Percival the Owl and Fisher the Raccoon out for an afternoon stroll. Bein’ a pirate that prides me self on bein’ well read, I recognized these three as the Libraries’ mascots, so I introduced me self. There we was, talkin’ bout best sellers, old classics, and how the world of libraries, as with most things, has changed so much with the explosion of the Internet.

“People enjoy having us as mascots for the physical libraries,” Annie barked. “It’s too bad we don’t have a face to represent everything the libraries do in cyberspace.”

Me interest was piqued.

So I says, “Aye, I be takin’ a hiatus from sailin’ the high seas and need a change. I could be the virtual mascot, what say you?”

The group thought the idea was brilliant and took it to the library folks. Obviously they approved the idea or else I would not be writin’ to introduce me self.
