Kids, Counting, Family Activities, and the 2020 Census

Posted on June 18, 2020 by Jennifer Zachman in Library Blog, Library Programs

Complete your 2020 Census today! Go to 2020census.gov

Children begin learning numbers at an early age. But, it’s when kids learn about counting numbers that kids begin to understand the meaning of numbers. And once the power of numbers is known and understood, the answers to so many little and big questions can be determined like how many cookies to bake for a group of ten friends or how many turns each kid gets on the swing during playtime.

But what about some of the big questions like how many schools should a community have in it to teach its youngsters? Or how many parks should it have for them to play in?

Answers to these questions and thousands more can be determined through the count taken every ten years in the United Sates called the Census. It’s important for every person in the country to be counted so that all communities have enough money for the things it needs… like schools, parks, roads, hospitals, and so much more.

Help your kids understand counting by sharing counting opportunities whether it’s how many chairs you need at your table for all the people eating lunch in your house or participating in a virtual library storytime all about counting!

A few virtual storytimes to get you started

All virtual storytimes are available on the Library YouTube Channel.
